AMPA's 1st Annual Haircut Charity Event.

As a mother of three its hard to find the time to introduce my children to everything I want them to learn about in this crazy world we live in.  One thing that is super important to me is raising my children to be good people and for them to be thankful for all they have.  I have learned the only way to teach a child is by showing them.  This is when I decided to put my craft towards something that is important to me, charity.  With that being said, I've decided to use my talent for a good cause, A HAIRCUT CHARITY.  I believe this event will be a great success! All children that get their haircut, both boys and girls, are donating to two AMAZING charities.

Below is the information on the charities this event will be helping.

St. Jude's Children's Hospital:  Founder, Danny Thomas used his fame to fulfill his vow to St. Jude Thaddeus and to change the lives of thousands of children and families. He created St. Jude with the idea that it would become a unique research institution where the world’s best doctors and scientists would work together to cure childhood cancer, sickle cell and other deadly diseases. Still today, as when as when they opened their doors in 1962, families have never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because they believe, all they should worry about is helping their child live. St. Jude Hospital has spent more than half a century finding cures and saving children.  Their groundbreaking research has helped push the survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% in 1962 to more than 80% today.

Matter of Trust:  This is a unique organization that works with hair clippings to create hair mats to soak up oil spills.  This may sound a bit odd, but according to Matter of Trust, last year over 2,600 oil spills occurred around the world.  Hair mats adsorb the oil (the oil clings to the hair, as opposed to being soaked up or absorbed) thus making cleanup of the spills easier.  Matter of Trust is a unique organization with an amazing mission.

Locks of Love: This is a non-profit group that provides hairpieces to financially challenged children.  If you have long hair and are thinking donating your hair, consider donating your hair to Locks of Love. To donate, you must have at least 10 inches of hair which must be cut off in a ponytail. (please schedule 2 back to back time slots if your child wants to donate their hair to Locks of Love)
